Shelly Finkel is the Principal and President of Power Play Network, a strategic marketing, events and travel agency. After spending the majority of her career in the corporate world, Ms. Finkel ventured into entrepreneurship and has shared her expertise with small to medium sized businesses, consulting on marketing and business operations. She has also managed a variety of events, including business to business conferences and networking functions as well as large scale annual fundraisers for non-profits.
Ms. Finkel formerly served as Vice President of Marketing & Business Operations for The Sports Business Daily, the leading daily trade publication for the sports industry. With over twelve years experience in the sports, publishing and event management industries, she has direct interaction with top decision-makers and organizations such as sport and event marketers; league and team executives; media and advertising agencies. She was responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing strategies, partnerships and strategic alliances along with the financial planning and business operations. With Ms. Finkel’s guidance, the publication grew from a start-up venture to a vital information service, with an extraordinary subscription renewal rate of more than 80% that spanned over eight years. In 2001, she handled The Sports Business Daily’s transition from an e-mail text newsletter to a comprehensive online news service.
Prior to joining the staff of The Sports Business Daily, Ms. Finkel was Senior Box Office Manager at US Airways Arena in suburban Maryland. She was also with the Washington Capitals marketing department for three years prior to working for US Airways Arena, handling all aspects of client services in the group sales department.
Ms. Finkel is involved in the local business community, the national and local sports communities, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and the Latin American Chamber of Commerce. She served on the branding and public relations committee for the Women’s Leadership Initiative of the United Way of the Carolinas. As a member of the national organization WISE, Women In Sports and Events, she launched the Charlotte chapter and has served on the steering committee of the National Sports Forum.
Ms. Finkel has a B.S. in Consumer Economics/Marketing from the University of Maryland.
